The Journey

Life is a journey.

Complex. Troubled. Chaotic. Balanced with peace, calm and fluidity.
The journey can be marked by significant moments of delight, and also pain.
Just recently I spent time talking with a friend, as I often do, about the daily outworking of my life and the complexities, the challenges, the pitfalls but also the highlights. This critical friend is one that reminds me that "I am enough" and that sometimes the tough stuff if there not to hinder, but to shape.
I was talking about how I had began lector 365 mediations, both on my drive to work and as I fall asleep. One moment that I shared with her was a moment that I had driving to work one morning. You see each day, I drive to work, along the same stretch of road, my mind often planning the outworking of the day. But this day was different. I approached an overpass. An option to take the road off the freeway and to head into a different direction. As I journeyed towards this overpass, I felt a voice say "stay on this road, the straight one- you may have taken the detour, but you're back- on the road, where I need you".
Its not often that I hear the audible voice of God. But when I do, its resounding.
As I shared this moment with my critical friend, she asked what was down that detour road. It was a zoo, Monarto Zoo. As we laughed at the imagery of that detour, the reality set in. It was an audible voice of God that I had heard. If I was to take the detour (metaphorically) my life would be all kinds of crazy. The imagery of lions roaring and the ferociousness and animosity of animals fighting caused my mind to quickly reflect on what life is like when you don't allow yourself to be led by peace.
I do believe in the voice of God. However, I am not forcing that here.
What I do suggest, is take those moments each day to meditate. To listen. To align yourself (and realign) yourself on a path that you know where you are meant to be.
We have all been created with a purpose, and passions. Giftings that allow us to give something back to the world. It's through listening that we know what those purposes are.
Powerful people are those who listen. Who are peaceful.
